The Island Community is invited to join together for a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. This memorial service held in homage to the tenth year anniversary of September 11, 2001, will reflect on the many lives that were lost, and honor our veterans, past and present.
The ceremony will be held Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 09:55 AM at the Nantucket Fire Station at 131 Pleasant Street. Included in the ceremony and attending will be members of the Nantucket Fire Department, the Nantucket Police Department, the American Legion, Veterans of the Foreign War, United States Coast Guard-Station Brant Point and other public officials. Prayers will be led by Fire Chaplain Reverend Ted Anderson and Police Chaplain Reverend Jacqueline McGrady.
Included in the ceremony will be honor guards from the Nantucket Police Department and the United States Coast Guard-Station Brant Point. There also will be music along with a bell ringing in memory of all those lost on September 11, 2001. Refreshments will be provided and handicapped/disabled seating available. The public is asked to arrive and assemble no later than 9:45 am so that 30 minute ceremony can begin promptly at 9:55 AM.
