As of 8:00 AM, Sunday, August 28, 2011, the revised forecast by the National Weather Service (www.erh.noaa.gov) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (www.mass.gov/mema) continues to track the path of Hurricane Irene closer to Great Barrington in the Berkshires. Storm conditions for Nantucket have been downgraded to a Tropical Storm with intermittent heavy wind gusts possible midday Sunday through Sunday night. Islanders should be prepared for sustained winds reaching 30-50 mph with gusts up to 60 mph and 3-5 inches of rainfall possible. A storm surge of 2-4 feet at high tide is at 12:01 PM on Sunday is possible, resulting in localized flooding.
