The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm and Hurricane Warning for Southern New England. Although it is still too early to determine the potential impact of Hurricane Irene on Nantucket, the Town of Nantucket is in the preliminary phase of preparations for the storm. The Nantucket Emergency Management Team continues to have daily calls and check-ins with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the U.S. Weather Service, and it is anticipated that additional information will be available on Saturday after the storm makes landfall in the southern United States. Public Safety Officials urge residents to anticipate the arrival of the storm and make appropriate travel preparations or arrangements to shelter in place.
The Harbormaster has issued a Local Notice To Mariners. The notice can be viewed here.
