Senior Center Committee


This committee will:

  • Evaluate the space needs for a new/expanded Senior Center**
  • Evaluate Town-owned properties for a new Center
  • Evaluate non-Town owned properties
  • Consider preliminary operational expenses and capital costs
  • Consult with other Massachusetts towns that have constructed a Senior Center within the past 2 years as to costs, process, public outreach
  • Prepare a written report as to the evaluation, with a recommendation(s)

**Evaluation must include: 

  • public meeting space, sufficient for meetings of up to 25 people
  • administrative office space
  • sufficient storage for programmatic materials, records, equipment, etc
  • identification of any new programs not currently offered
  • sufficient parking
  • proximity to shuttle/bike paths
  • proximity/availability of infrastructure (sewer, water, stormwater) (ie, is it nearby or would it have to be extended; or on well/septic)
  • whether or not housing could be made a component of the project
  • whether or not to include a “Community Center”
  • what additional resources might be needed to manage/operate with various additional programming
