The Nantucket Sewer Department, as part of its public outreach and education initiative, provides tours to individual visitors and to groups of all ages. Learn how Nantucket handles and treats wastewater by touring our facilities and seeing the process first-hand.
Tours are available at both our Surfside and Siasconset waste water treatment plants for groups between 8-12 people, upon request, with advanced notice required. Tours last about one hour, and may be scheduled between 8:30 AM, with the last tour ending at approximately 2:00 PM.
Visitors will be asked to adhere to certain footwear requirements for the purposes of safety. The Sewer Department will issue high-visibility gear and other items for the duration of your tour, and takeaway materials will be provided upon your departure. We are always pleased to see past tour participants come away with a positive experience and a new newfound understanding of how things work at our facilities.
