Message from Chief Pittman

Welcome the Nantucket Police Department website.  The Town of Nantucket is a world class summer resort community located 30 miles out to sea off of Cape Cod.  Our community is made up of a diverse and vibrant year round population.  Our police department is a full-service agency that has many different areas of responsibility.  The police department is responsible for five major public safety functions; Police, Emergency Communications, Marine Safety, Emergency Management and Business Licensing.  The department has 37 full-time sworn officers, 21 full-time non-sworn staff, two non-sworn part-time staff and 92 seasonal staff.

Nantucket welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from all parts of the world here every year.  We are world renown for our cobble stone streets, classy restaurants, Hotels and Inns, art galleries, our beautiful harbor and museums.  Chain stores are prohibited in our core downtown area making this a mecca for shopkeepers and innkeepers with their unique products and hospitality.  The island has miles and miles of beaches available to the public and over sixty percent of the island has been protected from future development.   The men and women of the department work hard in their respective areas of expertise to insure that visitors are safe and enjoy their time here on the island.

I hope that you find this web-site helpful and come back often for important news and updates about our Town and your police department. We always welcome your feedback, so please contact us with any concerns, suggestions or comments.

It has been my honor to serve this island community since 2004.
