The Water Department is an Enterprise Fund of the Town of Nantucket. An Enterprise Fund is a fund to account for an operation for which the Town charges user fees to pay for services to the public. The Water Department is governed by an elected five-member Nantucket Board of Water Commissioners charged with the administration and operation of the Company and to oversee water services provided to the Town of Nantucket.
The Nantucket Water Department shall strive to provide high quality drinking water which exceeds all established Federal and State drinking water standards, provide the highest level of customer and water related support services achievable, educate and inform the public of the need to protect Nantucket's water resources, and to accomplish this mission using prudent utility practices and responsible fiscal management.
