The Northeast Waste Management Officials' Association (NEWMOA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, interstate association whose membership is composed of the state environment agency programs that address pollution prevention, toxics use reduction, and related environmental challenges in the northeast states. Members collaborate on various topics, including sustainability, materials management, hazardous waste, solid waste, emergency response, waste site cleanup, underground storage tanks, etc.
NEWMOA has hosted a webinar series to share available information on the prevalence of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment, risks to public health, and options for alternatives and remediation. The Town’s PFAS project team has found NEWMOA to be a convenient and reliable source of information when learning about PFAS. The science and our current understanding of PFAS is evolving at a rapid pace and it is recommended that additional sources of information also be considered.
