Baxter Road Alternative Access

The Baxter Road area and the Sconset bluffs have been subject to periodic erosion, and the rate of bluff erosion is expected to be exacerbated by sea level rise and increased storm intensity due to climate change. The project area includes residential and tourist areas with supporting infrastructure including roads and buried utilities such as Town water and sewer. With ongoing bluff erosion, the homes and infrastructure are at risk. The Baxter Road Alternative Access project seeks to address the growing erosion risks of the bluff in relation to Baxter Road and associated water and sanitary sewer infrastructure beneath it. The purposes of the project is to plan for safe access and continued services in the event that the road may breach or become unusable.
