BEACH VEHICLE PERMIT ACCESS

Town of Nantucket Beach Vehicle Permits allow for vehicle access at the following locations:

  • 40th Pole
  • Nobadeer Beach
  • Smith's Point, Madaket
  • Point of Breakers/South Shore
  • Low Beach/'Sconset

BEACH VEHICLE PERMIT FEES

Fees are based on car registration and date of purchase as follows:

Nantucket Vehicle Registration:

  • January 1 - May 31: $50
  • June 1 - December 31: $100

Off-Island Vehicle Registration:

  • January 1 - June 30: $100
  • July 1 - September 30: $150
  • October 1 - December 31: $100

Rental Vehicles:

  • $200

HOW TO PURCHASE BEACH VEHICLE PERMITS

In-Person:

  • Beach Vehicle Permits are sold at the Police Station, 4 Fairgrounds Road, Lobby Records Window, Monday - Sunday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Payments accepted by Cash, Check (made payable to Town of Nantucket), and Credit Card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover only).
  • Car Registration required to purchase Beach Vehicle Permits.
  • Permit Stickers must be placed on the front and back bumpers. Failure to display the Beach Sticker properly or driving on the beach with no sticker may result in fines up to $300.

Online:

  • Beach Vehicle Permits may be purchased online at anytime. The permits must be picked up at the Police Station, 4 Fairgrounds Road, Lobby Records Window, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

HOW TO DRIVE ON THE BEACH

  • Permit Stickers must be placed on the front and back bumpers. Failure to display the Beach Sticker properly or driving on the beach with no sticker may result in fines up to $300.
  • All vehicles must be four-wheel drive, properly registered and operated by a licensed driver.
  • All drivers must air down vehicle tires to 12-15 p.s.i.
