Work at the intersection of Washington and Francis Streets

Phase 1 is a partnership between the Town and the Nantucket Land Bank that now owns the former Nantucket Island School of Design & The Arts (NISDA).

Phase 1 is a partnership between the Town and the Nantucket Land Bank that now owns the former Nantucket Island School of Design & The Arts (NISDA) property to repair the existing road and drainage as well as widen the curve for vehicle and bicycle safety and improve the sidewalk for pedestrian safety. 

Phase 2 will occur over the next 5-8 years to address sea level rise and flooding issues in partnership with the Nantucket Land Bank that owns the beach areas along Washington Street by raising the road and increasing storm water capacity.  This is a long-term project that integrates elements of the Town’s Community Resilience Planwhich includes the Coastal Resilience Plan, Hazard Mitigation Plan, the Coastal Resilience Advisory Committee’s Sea Level Recommendations as well as other integrated Town efforts that are part of the Select Board’s Strategic Plan.
