Recreational Bay Scallop Fishery Data Collection Volunteer Opportunity

The Natural Resources Department is looking for volunteers to assist with collecting recreational shellfish data surrounding the low tide times throughout the month of October.

Volunteers will monitor various access points in Madaket Harbor to collect information on provided data sheets in efforts to record the amount of recreational scallopers and the amount of scallops being harvested in each area.

The greatest need will be on the first two October weekends. Other times are included (or will be added based on need) for Wednesdays-Fridays in October as well.  Training will be provided for all  volunteers and credit for community service will be a component for interested students or those who need it.

You must sign up for one volunteer orientation to participate.

Requirements: must have your own transportation to/from Madaket, have decent observational skills, willingness to communicate with the public, and able to stand/sit/walk outside on the beach while recording/collecting data. Please email Tara Riley for additional questions
