2023 Film & Photo Shoot Permit Application

  1. TOWN OF NANTUCKET FILMING PERMIT APPLICATION

    This online application is intended as a convenience for beginning the film permitting process. Please fill all applicable form fields as completely and accurately as possible. For any inquiries please call 508-325-4166 during business hours Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm or email  Town's Events Coordinator.

  7. Please list all dates for requested filming

  8. Please attach a complete production schedule, including dates, hours, location, and crew size.

  9. Download and fill out one SPECIFIC INFORMATION SECTION form for EACH location requested. For each location, please provide easily readable map(s) to expedite the approval process. An aerial map (i.e. a screen shot from this map) is preferred. Please circle and mark the whole area of intended filming (indicate shooting location, crew & equipment holding, parking requests, generator location, etc.) . The map acts as a visual to support all of the described activity on your Specific Information sheet.


  10. Will Event Require Any Road Or Sidewalk To Be Blocked Or Closed?
  11. If  any public streets / sidewalks or roads are to be partially or totally blocked, the applicant must submit a Street Blocking Permit  Application as a part of the permitting process. This form must list all locations to be blocked. The Police Department may require an onsite Officer Detail during filming / video / photo projects for reasons of public safety. The film production company will be responsible for all public relations with private citizens, businesses, and residents who may be affected by parking of vehicles and street closures. The film production company must notify in writing those individuals who may be affected by filming activities.

  12. Important Notice - Filming on Milestone Road

    Any film projects involving Milestone Road (the State Highway) will require approval of Massachusetts Department of Transportation as this road falls under their jurisdiction.

  13. Important Notice - Filming in Downtown or Historic 'Sconset Districts

    Commercial filming or photography in the Downtown and 'Sconset Historic Districts is strictly regulated with minimal productions allowed from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If interested in filming during this time period contact Marina Dzvonik at mdzvonik@police.nantucket-ma.gov

  14. EQUIPMENT & CREW
  15. Descriptions of action stunts involving pyrotechnics, loud or continuous noise, large groups of people, high intensity lighting or extensive on-site equipment must be included on the application so that potential impact on the neighborhoods can be adequately assessed.

  16. NOTICES FOR ALL PRODUCTIONS
  17. All Filming must comply with the 10:00 pm Noise Ordinance. Requests for extension past 10:00 pm or prior to 7:00 am must be approved by the Select Board.
  18. Please contact Marina Dzvonik at mdzvonik@police.nantucket-ma.gov to learn more about beach permitting authorities and process to request permission. Please note that the use of public beaches may be limited during summer season. Use of privately owned beaches and locations requires the written approval of the property owner / controlling agency.

  19. HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT

    In consideration of permission to use the public property, facility or services described herein, the Applicant agrees to save and hold the Town of Nantucket, its agents, servants, and employees harmless from any and all liabilities or costs arising out of the use of the described premises by the Applicant, the Applicant's guests, employees, subcontractors, and/or other persons. The Applicant acknowledges that the permission to utilize the facilities is limited to the portion of the premises herein described (if applicable), and that the permission is valid only for the activity herein described. Notwithstanding the foregoing, this Hold Harmless Agreement shall be applicable to any claim asserted against the Town of Nantucket, its agents, servants, and employees, and for any loss incurred arising out of the Applicant's activity whether or not such claim or loss extends beyond the permitted type or locale of activity or occurs on a different date than specified. Commercial General Liability is required in the amount of $1,000,000 CSL (combined single limit) with the Town and County of Nantucket added as an additional insured.
